Working in Partnership with Student Organizations

Over the last three years, the UMBC Career Center has partnered with student organizations to connect them with employers through two initiatives; facilitating an annual Reverse Career Fair and assistance with coordinating speakers for student organization meetings and events. This discussion will offer attendees an overview of the successes and challenges of working with student organization leaders, campus departments responsible for working directly with them, and employers eager to connect with our students.
Infusing Career Into the Curriculum

This session will provide an overview on career curriculum integration within three required classes at the University of Baltimore ( WRIT 300, IDIS 101, and INFO 110). More specifically,this presentation will provide details on ways the CIC has successfully partnered with the academic side to infuse career related assignments in the curriculum. This session will highlight assignments details, the coordination process and the challenges and best practices when working with faculty.
Career Advising for International Students: Federal Regulations and Best Practices

International students have strict federal policies to follow regarding working as a student, interning, and post-graduation work authorization. This session will provide a review of federal regulations relevant to international students who are F-1 and J-1 visa holders who are interested in working and/or interning. Advising tips and best practices will be also shared.
Engaging Students Through Life Design

Life Design is an approach adopted by Johns Hopkins University in which staff members use life design tools and exercises to help students explore, experiment, and develop experiences while at Johns Hopkins to find their ideal post-graduate opportunities. Life Design Educators bring forth their diverse backgrounds and experiences to create engaging programming for the students they serve. This session will communicate the broader goals of the Life Design approach adopted by Johns Hopkins University, as well as engagement examples from various Life Design Educators
